Re: [RC] being competitive - Sisu West Ranch

I do not see "To Finish is to Win" as being incompatible with riding to achieve first place, or a particular year end award, or first in a weight class. It is also compatible with riding for a personal best time, a horse's best time, or just to finish the toughest ride you personally have ever attempted.

What it does say to me is that Endurance Riding is not caught up in the idea "Second place is the first loser". Many people in the good ol' USA seem to feel, to quote (or possibly misquote) Vince Lombardi, "Winning isn't the most important thing, it is the only thing."

As long as we understand that we are all doing a worthy, athletic thing by participating in the sport of Distance Riding*,
we can have fun, protect our horses, and achieve high placing and awards if we want to, and not put anyone down because they do not approach the sport like we do.

*My definition of "Distance Riding", includes CTR, LD, 50 mile Endurance Rides, 100 mile Endurance Rides, FEI rides, CEI rides, multiday rides, and similar events I haven't heard of or have forgotten.
