[RC] Practical side of LD Isssue - KimFue - Richard Sacks

I guess THIS might be my last post on this issue.

Kim stated "This LD issue was brought up again because of complaints at a multiday that offered LD riding.". That isn't why I brought it up. I brought it up because of the long running issue of LD/Endurance/Racing et al. I have been at many more rides than I have ridden in as a crew member, sponsor, and vendor. I have seen the condescending attitude displayed by riders, some of whom have posted on this issue on RideCamp. I hear about from customers who call about our products. We are proud to sponsor AERC and the many individual rides we have sponsored as well. I just think there is a flaw in how we approach LDs within our organization especially in the west region. I think there are better ways to handle the issue and I raised several different approaches (tightened criteria, prerequisites for doing "endurance rides"). I used several different examples to demonstrate the folly of what we do now (including DG and posting the rules for all to see). I didn't even touch on the group of people who are breeders and may be using our rides to enhance the sale potential of their horse. If that makes me an idiot, a divisionist, a BCer (not Best Condition), or just plain stupid in anybody's eyes so be it. But in the long run if it helps to grow our sport and AERC. I believe it is a good thing to discuss this prior to convention or until it is resolved.
