[RC] Back Country Horsemen Affiliates - Tennessee and Georgia - Jim Holland

There is now an affiliate of Back Country Horsemen in Western TennesseeTennessee is naturally divided by the Smokies into two parts.  The Back Country Horsemen of East Tennessee has been in place for some time. http://www.bchet.org/  Their efforts have resulted in over 100 miles of new trails in the Eastern Cherokee National Forest over the last few years.

There is now a WEST affiliate of Back Country Horsemen in Tennessee based in Cleveland, TN.  This is the area around the Georgia’s Cohutta Wilderness, Tennessee’s Big Frog Wilderness, the Western side of the Tennessee’s Cherokee National Forest, and the Ocoee National Forest.  If you live near this area, you are encouraged to join BCH.  The new affiliate is the Southern Appalachian Back Country Horsemen and the website is http://www.sabch.org/  which offers information on trail construction classes, trail work opportunities, area trail information, legislation, and much more.  It is updated frequently.  They are offering a really good membership price right now for charter members.  Check it out.

For those of you who live in Georgia, two affiliates are in the organizational stages here, the Back Country Horsemen of North Georgia and the Back Country Horsemen of South Georgia, with a loosely defined boundary around Atlanta.  The websites for these two affiliates are on the LINKS page at SABCH.org.  They are currently under construction.  An organizational meeting is planned for sometime later this spring. Assistance is needed to help with this endeavor.  If you are willing to help and live in North Georgia, contact Susan Shedd. susan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. (706) 838-0392  In South Georgia, contact Tina Maddox. francis@xxxxxxxxxx (706) 319-0239. (Or me)

Please invest in our trails.  Remember all you need is a horse….and a TRAIL.  It behooves all of us to become trail advocates if we wish to continue to ride on public lands.  Please forward this post to your equestrian friends in Georgia and Tennessee.

Thanks!
