Re: [RC] Endurance & Dressage- - Cidinha

LD rides are great fun; let's just enjoy the riding, no matter what the
distance or definition.

I agree. All the rides are endurance rides.

How much clearer can the definition of endurance be? This is VERY clear.
LD is distance riding. 50 miles and above is endurance riding (by AERC
by-laws definition.) Why are some riders so upset about the semantics?
We're all out there riding the same trails in the same sport. But for
AERC
structure, we have to have a definition somewhere, and it's already in
place. Can't LD riders say they are "Distance Riders" without feeling
somehow they are being demeaned? LD rides are great fun; let's just enjoy
the riding, no matter what the distance or definition.

We're dealing with two different uses of the word e-n-d-u-r-a-n-c-e.

First there's "Endurance", which is officially defined as 50+ miles in
one
day.
This definition is unassailable!

And then there's "endurance"... which SOME people use when talking about
ANY
trail riding that they do in their quest to compete in Endurance.
They're
not
pleasure-riding, they're not competitive-trail-riding, so what are they
doing?
WE know that they're "conditioning", or competing in Limited Distance
Endurance... but in reality lots of people just shorten it (both out
loud
and
in their heads) to "endurance".

But just because we wear brightly colored tights, deck our horses out in
matching biothane, and prefer trotting/cantering most of the time does
not
make
us Endurance riders. What makes us Endurance riders is whether or not
we
have
ridden our horse in a competition of at least 50 miles in one day.
