[RC] Colic treatment - Judy Finchum

Even though this isn't endurance related, I wanted to pass along a treatment
that helped my 21 year old mare who had an impaction colic recently. It's the
first colic she's had in three years and the worst. This treatment was
completely new to me
and I hadn't read about it here or elsewhere.

To make a long story short, she had been tubed with water and mineral oi., iv
fluids, benamine, ect....the usual treatments on Friday evening. Saturday
morning she crashed again, and this time the vet gave her iv fluids and
inserted a tube. He
poured a gallon of water into the tube...(no mineral oil because the oil she
had been given the night before was still blocked). He left the tube in her
(taped it to her halter), told me to walk her and every hour, pour a gallon of
water into her
through the tube. It took 5 gallons of water and 5 hours of walking her (plus
a dose of Milk of Magnesia poured into the tube at gallon #5), before things
started looking better for her. She's okay now, but I really thought I was
going to lose her
for a while.

Many thanks to two of my friends who love her who helped me with walking and
watering her.

Judy &
Liberty (who has a reputation among the vets as being "easy to treat", thank
God!!)
