PS The vet wants him stall bound, (not even hand walked) but he can buck and rear and does all kinds of "airs above the ground in his stall" He's going stir crazy that's for sure.

Would you call your vet an Endurance vet? Or a racetrack vet? Or an Eventing vet? I have found that the approaches taken by various vets can depend greatly on what areas of the horse world they are most comfortable with. Vets that routinely deal with equine athletes often have a very different perspective than vets who deal mostly with livestock or weekend riding horses. Same thing with people doctors :)


If your horse is as unhappy as you say and your vet is not "into" really athletic horses, you might try to see if there are any of the above "horse athlete" type vets near enough to have come out (or trailer to) for a second opinion. Not on just the proud flesh issue but on the whole protocol.
