[RC] great mare..affording a foal.. and hips- all related - Barbara Moulton

so sorry to read about anyone losing a great friend
and partner hold on to your happy memories, my mare
Joy is only ten now but I can't imagine anyone taking
her place in my heart but her daughter Bonnie has her
own heartplace next to Joy's. I bought her from a
failed blm adoption in 2000 (quasi-rescue they were
starving her to "help" train the sass out of her) when
my hip/leg pain was so awful I was sure my cancer was
back- I had stiffness and pain at standing frequently
then drove my sister's car for two days with out
moving the seat back and then sudden increase in pain-
11 months and finally a chiropracter just saw me walk
and suspected Avascular Necrosis- x rays confirmed it
and through research I find that may cases of AVN are
trigered by a new physical activity which stresses the
femur head. One side is typically worse as the body
tries to protect itself.
... I bought Joy certain I would never face saying
goodby but now I am fine, the riding so helps my
limphodemia that I even looked to get a second horse
when Joy went through a long trial of mystery
lameness- I couldn't even get to a test ride without
wanting to just give up because Joy was the only one
for me. My daughter ( 24)made the mistake of going on
a little rant about how much I spend on Joy so of
course I did the mature thing and bred her. I board
and next month it is full board for two I write the
check and don't look back- it helps I am single and
employed and like the military have trained my
daughters to a strict- don't ask because I won't tell
policy re: horse related expenses. Somewhere LONG
down the road there will be Bonnie along side of me
missing a great mare. She made me laugh out loud when
I tied her for the first time ( 4 months old) and she
picked up her right back hoof and shook it just like
her mom does when Joy is frustrated at something like
waiting for a meal or having bathwater dripping off
her belly.

Barbara missing the herd and can't wait to get back
for Joy hug and Bonnie kiss.
