Re: [RC] Skunks - Diane Trefethen

I've only had a skunk under the house once and I discovered quickly that they are just like horses in that they dislike discomfort. My house is a small MH with the bottom enclosed on three sides. The day the skunk went under the house, my dog set to worrying it. [Lee loves to hassle skunks, despite having been nailed several times. Guess who's an outdoor dog!] The skunk sprayed and my bedroom took on the odor of Parfum de Pepe. I immediately went outside and sure enough, defensively tucked in a virtually unreachable corner was a skunk. I have a few leftover lengths of 20' pvc pipe so, after tying up the dog, I grabbed one and started poking at the skunk. As soon as its tail went up I'd stop. After about 1/2 hour I quit, but came back to nag at it again a few hours later. Another 1/2 hour, another hiatus, and when I returned, it was gone. I had made it's cosy cave unbearably disrupted. The odor in my bedroom was gone by the next morning but Lee stunk skunk for days.

Oh... according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, "...anything within ten to twelve feet of the animal is usually in range" and it "can shoot to the right, left, front, and back without turning around. It also may rear up on its front legs, as if doing a handstand, and spray forward over its head." Wow! That's talent!
