[RC] horses & bikes & hikers -- oh my! - lisa oberteuffer

well, I think it would not do ANYONE any harm to say hello in a friendly voice to others on the trail!

hiking, I will give way on the trail to anyone who seems like they need it: families with a bunch of kids, horse riders, cyclists, older folks ... I don't think it's an imposition, just politeness.

I notice that single women walking alone do not like to have runners speed up from them on behind without so much as a "hi"

I notice that hikers do not usually appreciate bikes speeding by them with no bell and no "on your right (or left)".

I notice that some people get nervous about whether their dog is going to get along with your dog.

and I notice that everyone with kids really appreciates it if I stop so they can let the kids (and grownups) pet my "horsie" :)

cheers--and a big "howdy, nice weather isn't it," if I meet you on the trail :)
