RE: [RC] Breeds: Paints - Diane DayThey must have a registered Paint parent but also require the stud to be in their books too - if a QH or other breed. We have a paint colt out of a reg. paint mare and a reg QH stud and when we went to register him, they wanted the daddy to be added to their role of sires - with DNA sample sent in and a whole lot of information as well. We'd have to get the owners to do that and I expect they will not. Our only option left is to regsiter him as Pinto. But the question is - if he is going to be a gelding - how much does registration really matter? Did anyone read an article in Western Horseman, I think, that said only about 1 horse out of 100,000 are stallion quality? I only got to read the responses to it in the following month's letters to the ed. but have been thinking about that statement quite a bit lately. Could it really be that high a chance to have a good stud prospect?DianeD As others have said, Pinto is a color registry, a horse of any breed, gaited or not gaited, or any size or shape.
