Sometime
back I read that the AQHA association was going to start registering QHs “of color” rather than making them register
under the Paint Horse Assoc.’s registery. Both
parents needed to be QH, of course, and I’m pretty sure the article also
said it was going to be retroactive for those that wanted to register their QHs that were already registered as Paints. Personally, I
thought think it’s a good idea, since obviously the color gene is still in
the QHs, why put the horses that display the gene
into a different registry just because someone didn’t like “color”
at some time in the past.

Paint
is a breed the same way that Pinto is a breed - they have a registry that
selects by color.Paints are
Quarter Horses with pinto characteristics and the AQHA will not register them,
so they came up with their own registry.
