Re: [RC] Santa Fe Horse Race? - Sky Ranch

Here's a question I have about the race. I would really like to enter a
couple of segments of this race, and on looking at the AERC calender, the
rides are listed individually, each day, as if you could enter just one
segment. But, when I contacted the ride manager, he told me no, I have to
enter the entire race, even as an individual. So... anyone know about that?
I tried to download the entry form but couldn't (I love my computer, I love
my computer) so I don't know what the fee would be, but I suspect it's too
much for me to do! I want to ride as an individual, not as a team.

but the
Mustangs part is strange. Are they just 'breaking" them now and who is
going to condition ride , train them in 7 months.....?
Wonder if this is really going to happen? If it will work or be a
disaster? Seems rather "all encompassing" .................

Below is an excerpt from the webpage on the race regarding the
mustangs...I
am curious also.
I agree that 7 months even with consistent conditioning isn't ideal for
building a solid endurance horse. Could be a difference if they select
ones
that have some former wild conditioning...versus ones sitting around in a
holding facility for months....and I can see doing a careful 50.....but
worries about a 50 day after day....?

The BLM Wild Horse and Burros Program will be providing horses for
international teams entering this event. The horses will be selected by
ride
manager, Courtney Hart, in early February 2007. The horses will be broke
in
the Correctional Facilities in both Canyon City, Colorado and Hutchinson,
Kansas. After the Great Santa Fe Trail Horse Race Endurance Ride, these
horses will be put up for adoption.
