Re: [RC] Camping with horses - Keith Kibler

This subject of camping with horses is really interesting to me. Except, what I am planning could be called more of  "camping off the horse". We live in extreme southern Il just north of Kentucky. We have the Shawnee National Forest. As a part of that there is a trail called the River to River trail which connects the Mississippi River to the Ohio River. It is just short of 150 miles long. Several people have done it in groups and taken a week or longer to do it. They often would use more than one horse and trailer with LAs.
I am thinking of doing it largerly by myself and using my best endurance guy and camping off the horse with light weight backpacker/distance bicyle type gear. I have started collecting the gear and may get a two day practice run during the Christmas break. I would use food drops for the horse.
Several of our friends want to have a day or so of the thing I am planning which is okay too.
Has anyone here done any of this kind of thing?
Thanks
Keith
