The wrist units do not have the roads and maps, etc, but you can see locations and a track of where you've been and most of the Forerunner units have a "Back to Start" feature where it will take you back the same way to your starting point. You can also select a point and say "Go To" and the unit will point you in a straight line to that point from where you are as well as tell you how far away the point is.

The new 305/205 units have a feature called "Courses" that can be used for navigating as well.
