Re: [RC] Black Water Boogie!!!! - Truman Prevatt

After the summer of '04 and being without power for 8 days and losing all the food in our frig and having the business computers down for that time, I bought two Honda EU2000 (not 3000) generators. These two together were the same cost as a EU3000. They are quiet. The two 2KW gives me a lot more flexibility at home in emergency. I can use one on the frig and put one outside on the upstairs balcony and run all the computer equipment. Then if I need they can be hooked together with an adapter in parallel and produce 4KW which is sufficient for the entire trailer. These weigh less than 50 pounds so even my wife can handle them with no problem (The EU3000 goes at about 120 pounds).

I've run them from time to time when it was overcast and not enough sun to keep the batteries up from the panel. On our way up to Michigan in August we stopped for an over night in Tennessee and it was brutally hot - a lot hotter than FL and now breeze either. I did break now and run the A/C till we went to bed and it was at least starting to cool off.

We have one of these, and you're right - it's really quiet, and a lot less likely to disturb someone. We don't run it after 10, anyway.

BTW, if you can't make it through the night on a battery - and we fairly
often deal with below freezing ridecamp weather here - then you probably
have either a bad, or an insufficient battery. I made the mistake of getting
a battery that didn't have enough amp-hours, and was wondering why we were
waking up to a nearly dead battery...

I'm going to have another battery box installed, along with a solar charger,
which ought to help keep things topped up and reduce the need for the
generator in the first place.

So, Truman - just _what_ are you doing to need 2 generators?
