[RC] re: [RC] Stopover along I-10 Between Texas and Florida? - Christina Schiro

You could stay over in Milton, FL (about 1 hour east of Mobile) at the Coldwater Recreation Area Campground and Stables within the Blackwater River State Forest. Pros are you have electric/water (and some have sewer) campsite and heated bathhouse and your horse could have a stall or paddock and have access to a grass turnout pasture. Cost is $13/night for campsite and stalls and covered paddocks are $5/night. Cons are it's about 30-45 minutes from the interestate. And restaurants are about 20 mins away. You can call Coldwater Forestry for reservations at (850) 957-6161. If you want to see pictures of the facilities, go to http://www.ffaha.org/blackwater_river_state_forest.htm

Directions:
From the West (I-10 eastbound): Take I-10 east to Hwy 281/Avalon Blvd (exit22). Head north and take to Hwy 90, where you will turn right (east). Take towards downtown Milton. At Hwy 87 (red-light with Burger King on the corner) turn left (north). Go 0.8 miles and you will see a Shell Gas station on the right at the intersection of Hwy 191 (Munson Hwy). Turn right (Northeast) and follow Hwy 191 for 14.2 miles. Turn left on Buddy Hardy Rd (watch for Blackwater Division of Forestry/Coldwater Recreation Area signs. A firestation sign will be shortly before your turn). Follow paved road 5.5 miles. Stables/Campground is on the right.
