You can also try just using easy boots
( the original kind)  no gaitors to rub!! I have had great success
using them on my mare's front feet for the last 2 years, one 55 mile we
did was through mud,a lake,rocks,. I thought for sure we would lose them
but put duct tape around the hoof first and they stayed on the whole 11
hours it took us to do the ride. :-) They have the added advantage of being
cheaper than the  Epics as well.:-)
