[RC] Pads on rears.. - Spottedracer

I've only heard of ONE reason that gaited trainers/owners will put pads on the rears - and not the front as well..... It's a condition they call 'dry hock' - apparently, it's a fairly common-enough occurence with 'VERY STRONG Runwalkers' - that the retired trainer I'm friend's with... has had several TWH come down with this condition during her extensive training career.

The vets can give a more detailed description - but from what I've gathered, these 'dry hocked' horses suffer from a lack of synovial fluid within the hock. Treatment is injection of fluids directly into the joint - then they must either be padded or kept in heeled shoes in the rear - to help elliviate future stress/pain.

Don't know what the prognosis is for these horses prospects in endurance. The vets can tell you. But I'd be wary if the consigner/owner is not straight up about a possible hock problem..
