RE: [RC] Pilot Error - Tom Sites

kat, i hope you hold no grudges against the pilot who took you over the edge.  I am sure he would not have risked his copter or those on board if he thought he didn't have at least a 'chance'.  Its better to me to know there are people out there like that than those who i have encountered.

Cases in point.

Code Blue: The rescue was called.  I took the person and tried CPR as i drove to meet the Rescue Squad and came upon a Virginia State Trooper writing a citation at an accident that happened to be on the way.  "Do you know CPR?"  "No" spun gravels and i went to meet the Squad.  Results...DOA.  Would those 3 minutes have been a difference?  Maybe not, but when a Trooper refuses to render CPR in a life-threatening situation i lose all Faith.

Delirium:  A hot August day and i pass this guy who appears drunk or disorientated and i pass him by only to turn arround and go back because i see he's not drunk.  I grab him and take him to my truck and lay him in the back and he starts awakening and slurring speech and i think he's gonna fall outta my truck and he smashes his mouth and starts to bleed and i try to hold him in as i drive and i come upon another State Trooper who i stop and say 'this guy is f***** up in some way".  So i try to give him to him and he says take him to the hospital, so i do.  By this time i got blood all over me and when i get to the hospital no one touches him til they got their gloves on.  Me...i got blood all over me at this time.  Conclusion:  Epileptic Seizure and he had been out in the sun for at least an hour before anyone stopped because he looked and acted drunk.  He made it and called me and thanked me for saving his life as well as his neice who worked at the ER.  Many. many people passed him by on that hot August day and i bet not one thinks about it to this day.

Eddie the Drunk from Woodstock was pinned under a truck w/ blood all over him hollering "Oh God, don't let me die".  I was the first on the scene and saw he was pinned and the truck was tilted on a rock that was on his legs.  The first guy by looked liked a professional and i asked him.  "Are you an EMT?"  "No" and he left.  He later came back in his State Trooper Car and said we could not risk pushing off the truck from the guy because it was too dangerous.  I said we ain't gonna get a tow truck in position to pull it off him so why don't we try?  Precious minutes passed til enough people showed up and we pushed the truck off him and he was put on a gurney and strapped in.  He sat in the middle of the road on the gurney Praying..."Lord don't let me die  i can't breathe    please turn me over" and they let him sit there til i couldn't take it any more and i left it to their hands.  He was only 10 minutes from the Woodstock Hospital and from my perspective....They let him die.  Maybe because he was Eddie the drunk from Woodstock and maybe because they didn't know what to do??i don't know but i go by his cross by the side of the road at least twice a week and wonder....if it was a family member i would have taken matters into my own hands and think why didn't i?  It took me over the edge.

I would hope that if i ever get into another Edge situation i have the means of clarity to re=act in a positive manner.  I would rather have someone like you had  even if the copter crashed by trying than these 3 examples, because they risked their own lives to save yours.  ts
