Re: [RC] to blanket or not - Truman Prevatt

Several years ago we went out west with our FL horses. We were headed for ID. We stopped at a horse B&B in Rapids City SD. This was June - our horses had their summer coat. We put them out in the pasture with what I thought was water proof blankets. It was cold but dry when we left. It started raining - this was the second week of June we are talking about here.

Well the blanket on my wife's horse was old and was not longer water proof and by the time we got back he was wet and cold. In fact he was so cold that his muscles were so tense that his gut motility was low and yes he coliced.

Putting him in a dry barn with a dry blanket and a shot of Bamamine let him relax and the issue resolved itself.

So while it may not happen often - it can.
