Re: FW: [RC] FEI Championships - Jody Rogers-Buttram

Angie,

My old horse Booy had lost one side of his jugular.   I don't remember just how long ago it was, but he competed for years like that.  But, I do remember after that when he had some surgery (bone chip) that they had to use the other side, there was no way to use the bad side at all.  At least on him, once it's gone, it's gone.

I'm curious as to how many horses lose the use of a jugular from scarring
from an IV. I know of three right off the top of my head...Desert Ballad
lost one when he was being treated for that awful infection he got in his
hip, then went on to win the ROC with just one. I know of another rider
who retired her 100 mile horse rather than risk him losing the one he had
left, and a third that went on to do 100's with one jugular. Is this
that a common enough occurance to consider when they're being so quick to
treat marginal horses?

Angie
