Re: [RC] Traction on wooden bridges? - Eric Rueter

We have a few bridges in the Big South Fork that have been there for years that the Park service just covered with "natural" footing from further up the trail. They may have added a little sand or gravel. It actually also has a dampening effect on the "noise" of the horses hoofs crossing the wood.

I've seen wooden bridges with wooden strips attached to them for
traction, and they work, but they get torn up pretty fast and are a
maintenance and a safety issue because when the strips come
loose/disintegrate, the nails/screws are exposed.

They are all flat, level.

Yes, now most of us dismount and walk across -- But thats less than
ideal, there's so many you spend more time getting on and off than
riding. ;-(

The strips mentioned before are a great idea, and what I normally see in
the area. I'm worried the bike riders would oppose?

When they are damp, we dismount and lead the horses

The above is always my first impulse .... I walk thru anything
questionable ...

Anyone have a picture of how steep the angle is??
