RE: [RC] Around-the-barn cart - Smith, Dave

Susan:  I just use an old wheel barrel.  Works fine for me and is certainly a lot cheaper than a specialty hand-cart.  I find if the word “horse” or “equine” is affixed a product, expect the price to double or triple what it should be.  Lotsaluck. --Dave

In the Nasco catalog, there is a metal-framed plywood cart that would carry a whole bale of hay.  If you keep it inside and not expose it to endless years of winter weather, it should last a LONG time.  It costs $181.60, which is considerably less than some plastic carts that are smaller.  I have owned both types and our wooden one is in sad shape because I have left it out in the rain over the past 20+ years, although it is only the metal binding on the plywood that is rusted out.  I could fix that with a little effort.  For some reason I am using the plastic carts now, and I think that reason is the difference in size and weight.  Should you be interested:  1-800-558-9595 or www.eNasco.com/farmandranch

The item number is Z18139N.

We need to replace our current hand-cart (a Rubbermaid 2-wheel version). I sure would love to get an Ursa Cart but the price tag is a bit steep. My husband wants 4 wheels; I want it to dump easily.
What are you using for an around-the-barn cart (one you can hand push/pull, not a tractor model)?
