[RC] Back issue on 100s. Seems like heat. Ideas? - terre

On the last two hundreds I've done, my horse got soreness in his back at about 90 miles. Not muscle soreness, not bruising, it seems like an issue with heat, as it is tender/owie to the touch, then scurfs within a few days.

Patty, how often do you pull your saddle? This may be related to ambient temps, etc, or it may just be a "thing" with this horse...but I'd be inclined to pull my saddle at every possible opportunity (any vet check longer than, say 20 mins)--and I'd let him roll if you can.

You may already be doing this--in which case, forget it!
