For some reason, when I come off, it is so fast that I have no 'hang time'...the ground seems to come and get me...<g> So, for me, there are no moments of 'oh sh!t...
However, there have been times when I didn't come off, but have hung on with nothing but fingernails...Those times, I'm usually looking at the very hard ground flying by and thinking, "If you let go, you are going to die..."
There is a sound that signals the abrupt dismount though.  You know the sound of the horses lungs exploding against the girth, gushing out his nostrils and also the rear end...That instant always seems to stick in my mind when I'm suddenly staring at the ants making their way around my nose....
