Here is the answer I got back from Rob Phillips when I inquired about the meaning of individual riders discussed at

Mike,

Thank you for your inquiry.

On team types 1 and 2 there is a designated rider for each day. These riders are guaranteed a spot to ride. An additional team member may ride for $100.00 providing space is available. There will only be 20 additional spots for riders.

If you are one of the 10 team members and space is available you may ride for $100.00 for that leg of the race.
