Re: [RC] LD/50 racing vs none racing times - Sisu West Ranch

"...There must be a certain amount of time that is average, otherwise how could you know it was too fast?..."

Perhaps we need to invoke a theory of Endurance Relativity.  If a person rides faster than you go he/she is going  fast and "racing"  If a person goes slower than you go he/she is a slowpoke and taking too much time.

I got hit by this one spring.  An experienced rider and I were discussing the upcoming 50 mile ride/race.  We both agreed that since our horses were not yet in optimum shape we would be going "slowly"  After we started we found that my slowly would yield a 9 hour ride time, and her slowly would yield a 6 hour ride time on that course.  If Don Funk was there he would have probably said that he was going to ride his usual ride and have a 10 hour ride time.
