Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] Are the LD's feeding 50's? - Truman Prevatt

The records bear this out. I did my research based on data from a few years

there have been any changes - I expect not.

The really interesting thing to me is that here in the NW, PNER gives (gasp,
shudder) ***points*** to people placing top-10 in an LD ride, _requires_
times to be posted for all distances, lumps all the points for any distance
together, we almost always have LD BC placings (except in BC, where they do
it, but differently), and what do you know? The sky hasn't fallen, the world
hasn't ended (though dogs and cats do live together at our house), we have
lots of growth in our region, and even have a nice selection of 75's and
100's to choose from. So the NW region's support of LD, and treating LD the
same as everything else, hasn't led to the downfall of civilization - quite
the opposite.

David,

If you lump together the NW and SE - take 2005 for grins you will find 13 100 mile rides- there were 26 total in the rest of the 7 regions. You will find the second and third regions with the largest number of rider miles, SE had a few more than the NW but they were pretty much a dead heat and you will find the fastest two growing regions in the AERC.

The one thing these two regions have in common is LD has been an integral part of endurance riding in both regions for quite some time. We have been giving LD BC the same as endurance, shudder counting finishing time, and our ride managers have been giving LD placement. So you are alsolutely correct - treating LD as an integral part of endurance has not brought on the downfall as civilization as we know it. The interesting question is how two regions that are about as far apart geographically as you can get - eveolved basically to the same point.

Truman
