Re: [RC] BC and High Vet Score - Diane Trefethen

what is the difference in these two awards?

Hi Pam,

BC is an officially sanctioned award that all Endurance Rides must offer. If no horse is in good enough condition in the opinion of the vets, the award does NOT have to be given.

BC consists of 3 parameters:
Physical condition of the horse as evaluated by the vets (vet score)
Time the horse has taken to complete relative to the winning time
Weight of the horse's rider, with tack

Having the highest vet score does not ensure that a horse will receive BC due to factoring in the other two parameters but whether that horse wins BC or not, having the highest vet score is always a real thrill for any rider because it says loud and clear, "You did a great job getting your horse ready for this ride and you took good care of him too."
