[RC] Soft tissue injury question - Spottedracer

Speaking from my OWN personal experience (on my own legs - but tendons, ligaments, muscles are all made out of the same stuff in mammals...Take similar healing times)...

When I've 'slightly pulled' the interior ligaments in my right knee - the swelling went down within 3 days. It didn't hurt to put weight on it. But if I tried to squat - I'd be writhing on the ground in agony. Took 6 months for full healing.

In August, I came off a horse and landed heavily on my left side. Ended up with knee pain on that side. Nothing shows up in scans. But the knee still hurts even today. It loosens up with exersize - but then is even worse the following day. Dr Figures mild soft tissue damage - and it'll probably take six months of 'rest' before it's healed.

My teammate's horse came up with mild lameness recently. (took 40 minutes of fast RW and twisting her hoof past her chest to get her to limp) Didn't find much on xrays. The specialist believed it was infection within the shoulder - and light rest + antibiotics was prescribed. She's almost ready to go back to LIGHT work. (Sheryl's going to take it SLOW...)

Since it's the off-season.. The longer you rest the mare - the better.. Heck the Dr's can't figure out exactly what's damaged in my own knees! Vet's generally have even less diagnostic tools than the MDs. So they make educated guesses.
