[RC] mane mites/allergies - Diane Day

Jackie - a lot of people use Seven dust for their pets down here to kill fleas and ticks. They say it works well, but these are outside pets not ones that come inside. They sprinkle the yards/dog houses with it. I don't know about how safe it is around humans. I read somewhere about diatomaceous earth being helpful against all forms of insects and bought a load of that from Home Depot's pool department. I put it around the house and on the dogs. There might have been some reduction in ticks but the dogs still manage to pick up a new ton of them each day that we pull off every night. Apparently the DE can be given to eat - it was suggested to give to horses as well. Havent done that yet though. I did notice that a product called Dynovite has DE in it though, so maybe its good. Just a little squeamish about giving something with that name to any living organism....
Thanks Heidi for the link you sent - perhaps trying a vegetarian dog food would work. At this point, I am at that "try anything" stage since we hate to see her so miserable. Or at least we think she is miserable. Maybe scratching feels good and she doesnt mind it. In that case, we're the ones who are miserable and need to put out of the agony of it!
