Re: [RC] question on electric portable corrals and blanketed horses? - Chris Paus

After years of trying everything, tying to trailer, electric corral, and portable pen, I'm back to tying at the trailer.

Yes it is true that a horse with a blanket on won't feel the electric sting and has no reason to respect it. I have one horse who asolutely respects hot wire, but the others do not.

Have a portable corral, but I'm tired of packing it and unpacking it! I've used it at home to make a pen for visiting mares at breeding season.

Just a month ago, a mare got freaked out over something at a nearby CTR. The ride was over and the final vetting was going on. Well that mare ran through the camp, tearing up electric pens on her way, getting them wrapped around her, the plastic posts and tape flying behind her scaring her even more. I wasn't there, but I guess it was pretty horrific. Lucky for all involved nobody was seriously hurt, human or horse. But it could have been a disaster.

Boy, do we agree with this!  We also have 12' livestock panels, originally painted steel, but we had them galvanized.  Heavy rascals...takes two of us
