Re: [RC] National Animal Identification System (NAIS) - desertflyer@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I went to a seminar about this sytem. What was explained to us is that they are implimenting the system with cattle right now. Horses will be eventually implimented. All horses will be chipped and scanned at each event when they arrive and leave. Each ranch that has horse or boards them will have a chip designated for their ranch.
Sounds like a job opportunity to be a scanner to me!
Have a great day, Brigitt,AZ>

This link is a personal opinion, but is the easiest way to get you to the NAIS plan. Read his take, but be sure you go to the government link on NAIS and the "Draft Strategic Plan" menu item he references. (It's a PDF file and takes a while to load)

Considering how porous our borders are right now, I think registering our "premises" and each of our animals (including chickens) with the government is a "slight" overkill. JMHO.

This is just "heads up" info on where we're going with this..think lots of bureaucracy, paperwork and probably more $$$$ to own and travel with your horse in the near future. Note that Tennessee is already "voluntarily" implementing this. North Carolina is implementing some of this as part of the Southeastern states "Event Permit". Note that in NC if you chip, YOU must carry a chip reader.

Florida already has some of this in place as well.
