HAHAHAHA!!  I'm laughing with you, not at you, because you just described a scene at my house just a week ago!  Only the pony horse was the little 5 month's old mother!  First attempt at "YIPPEE" I just let go. Then went and rounded the little booger up.  Key was to keep him close and short and wiggle the lead rope when I felt a "YIPPEE" coming on.  Hard to pony from an english saddle, too!
