Re: [RC] Re-conditioning an old saddle - Laney Humphrey

The local saddle guy who specializes in restoring antique saddles uses only liquid glycerin on them. He says its gentle and also doesn't destroy the stitching. It also gives the leather a wonderful feel and sheen. I've seen many of the saddles he's restored and the leather is soft and beautiful.

Hi all,

I have a very old saddle that belonged to my great grandfather. He was a professional trick rider and the saddle was passed down to me because of my horse passion. Because of the weight of the saddle, I will most likely never even try to put it on a horse, but I would like to take care of it. The leather is stiff and has some cracking. Can anyone recommend good products for reconditioning an old saddle like this?

Thanks all!
Nikki
