The best bit I have ever had was one made by Don Hansen of Don Hansen Bits out of Red Bluff, CA.  Don has passed away but his son, Denny Hansen now makes the bits.  If you can get a cast of your horses mouth Denny can custom fit a bit to your horses mouth.  I wouldn't be surprised if Denny could make a custom bit without a cast by taking measurements and taking pictures of as many points as possible. 
 
No, I am not Denny's agent!  LOL!  I was really pleased that Denny was able to step in and take over a long standing business with equal to or greater than quality as his Dad.
