I read somewhere, somewhen, that "Gee" and "Haw" are two of the oldest, unchanged words in the Indo-European languages. Apparently they were invented and used by the owners of the first domestic Oxen used for draft and have stayed the same in meaning and use since.

I don't have a reference, so if someone knows I am wrong I won't be offended.
