[RC] Extra safety (was Cruppers or not) - Nikki McCormack

I can't speak for everyone, but I would not dare ride without a breast collar now. I came off my horse and the saddle fell under his belly at a dead run, tearing his legs up very badly, and he ultimately became tangled and went over. Fortunately, the injuries were not severe, but they easily could have been. I could have prevented that if I had been using the breast collar (or even better if I had not fallen off, but that does not always work as planned). I would never risk putting my horse through that again and I really recommend them because of that.

My opinion is, don't use it for for your sake, use it for your horses sake. Accidents happen, no matter how solid the horse or the rider. Like wearing a helmet, it is just one more way to try and prevent injury. (Some people might contest that it is one more thing for the horse to get caught up on if they get away, but my experience is that most branches, etc. will give under the awesome power of a horse.)

Ok. Off my high horse (well, maybe not so high).
Nikki
