A thought that came to my mind was how many of the horses these riders were on will continue in the sport for as long as the horses you see in the US?  I have several friends that compete internationally.  It seems like they are looking for a new horse every couple of years.  So, there is something to be said for the "to finish is to win" philosophy.  Not only does the rider benefit but the horse most definitely benefits!  I love seeing the results of the endurance races and looking up the horses in the AERC stats.  Seeing how long some of these horses compete is heartwarming.
