RE: [RC] [RC] Pain killers - Jo Ann Knight

Right on

If I hadn't used pain killers after surgery I wouldn't have been able to
exercise so I could get back to work ASAP and if I didn't use OTC
anti-inflamatory I wouldn't be able to do much for long even now.
Unfortuanately I can't take Ibuprofin in Rx doses, it causes bleeding. I
don't use Tylenol except in the excedrin. I use excedrin due to the caffine
content. The caffine content according to my doctor is a factor in
assisting the analgesic effect of the asprin.

I fail to see how that puts me in the same league with baseball players and
world class bicyclists! Whether or not I'd take a true pain killer, i.e.,
vicodin for a endurance ride or LD is debateable since I have been there
done that yet. I'd have to do the LD first to find out how excedrin and I
handle it. I wouldn't consider taking one low dose vicodin a performance
enhancing dose. One would merely be doing what asprin does on an average
day, take the edge off. I have a body chemistry that has a high threashold
for pain killers and one is hardly noticable except after an hour I realize
the pain is duller. I have never had to use Rx pain killers except after
surgery so it isn't a matter of taking them till my body has to have more to
do the same job.

If my husband prescribed to the theory of "pain being nature's way of
telling you to stop doing something", he would be at home and out of work.
