[RC] CSI saddle pad - Ericka Nelson

another saddle pad question.  i am currently trying out an Annie George used saddle.  it is deep and secure for me.  my horse is EXTREMELY sensitive and hard to fit because of it.  we have ridden in a Torsion for three seasons with great results for him.
the Annie George saddle owners, (not Annie George herself, tho) are recommending the CSI saddle pad.  it is one inch thick PVC.  it just feels so thick.  my trainer feels that part of my horses problems do relate to inferior pads.  i CAN feel my thumb/ to forefinger thru my old pad (s).  but for sure the CSI pad is plenty thick.  no thumb to forefinger felt there.
here is my question.  all you equipedic users out  there, can you feel your thumb/to forfinger thru the pad?
any one have any advice re:pads for tender backed horse.
one more thing.  i do know some about the importance of saddle fit.  the Torsion is my 4th saddle on this wonderful gelding, so  i know you cannot correct poor saddle fit with a thick pad.  (just thought you should know i do know that).
all that said, if i can get this Annie George saddle to work i will sell my Torsion in the ride camp classifieds.
thanks for your input.
