Re: [RC] The Reality of Weight Divisions //IQ/EQ/Hi$toricalHandi¢ap$ - Beverley H. Kane, MD

Joe - I figured the "smart aleck" division would cover it. Actually, the
AERC Mensa category would be the open division equivalent of
featherweight--for people who didn't want to claim a low IQ handicap.

Last time I tested, it was, like, 165. If my recent Sudoko scores are any
indication, I've lost a few points since then. When my husband came here
from Buenos Aires, he spoke no English except for Nat King Cole songs and
tested in the retarded range. Two years later, he tested 180. Stoopid test,
anyway. More important than IQ is the principal of emotional intelligence,
which I teach with *horses* to medical students. (See "Medicine &
Horsemanship" at the URL below.)

That is a -really- interesting historical point you just made about the AERC
decision to level the playing field for people who couldn't afford to
fly/trailer around to as many rides as wealthy, retired people---like ??
those folks who are leasing Potato's horse for Tevis, and a more or less
guaranteed Top Ten, for $4,000.

I personally plan to petition AERC to create divisions based on the real
differentiators of fairness--
Age: <18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, ?80
Years of Riding: <5, 5-9, 10-19, ?20
Years in Endurance: <1, 1-4, 5-9, 10-19, ?20
IQ: <100, 100-109, 110-119, 120-129, 130-139, 140-149, 150-159, ? Mensa

That way I can win lots of embroidered blankets for smart aleck
featherweights 50-59 w/ <5 yrs riding & <1 yr in Endurance.

BK, PL

But you didn't tell us which IQ division you would be in! ; ^ >

(I was for a while a card-carrying Mensa geek, BTW.)
