Hmm.  I agree with Ed.  It's conditioning -- I would also submit that we, as
humans, are also becoming more domesticated, wanting to be protected.  ...
(not *always* a good thing)

We humans seem to be more easily led, more easily deceived, more willing to
take a carrot to avoid the stick. Complacency vs. rebellion.  Depends on
your point of view.  If you're fat and happy, you'll do whatever the "man"
tells you to do, to keep that feed coming in!  It's easier.  If you're wild
and free --and not yet starving -- you'll want to fight.  I think it applies
to all animals, certainly horses, and  thus, it applies to us.  The key
is -- if you're starving, you'll be much more compliant.  That's how
domestication started, don't you think?

Guess I'm still a rogue mare, at heart.  And not starving, yet.
