RE: [RC] To Ramy Jisha and BG 100 - heidi

Jim, I agree that by the early 90s (actually, by the mid to late 80s), we were seeing more horse deaths.  My own theory about that is that by then we were seeing a lot more people riding whose horses were less prepared and who were less knowledgeable about "survival riding," as the sport became increasingly popular.

But for many of us, the 90s are really recent history--when I think of the "old days" I'm referring to nearly 2 decades before you got started in the sport.  I did my first ride in 1973, and was advised by riders who had ridden well before that.  And horse deaths were indeed rare.

I don't think I was under a turnip, either--I was actively vetting rides for the decades of the 80s and the 90s, and observed the increase--and was alarmed by it.

Heidi

I attended my first Endurance ride somewhere around ’90-92’…not sure exactly….and if you don’t know about any horse deaths, as my granddaddy used to say, “you were born under a turnip”. J
