[RC] Horse slaughter - Randy or Cheryl Winter

This was sent to me and I am forwarding. Very disturbing.

HORSE SLAUGHTER: AN ARABIAN HORSE CRISIS!

Except for some heretofore unforeseen reason, the legislation discussed
below will reach the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote this
month. Urgent calls of support are needed without delay!

Last year, an astounding 91,000 horses were slaughtered at the 3 foreign
owned equine slaughter houses in the USA. Very many of them were Arabians.
This marks the most serious Arabian horse crisis in the history of the
United States.

Horse slaughter not humane euthanasia!

Federal law requires that horses be rendered unconscious before they are
slaughtered. However, undercover footage proves that many animals are
improperly stunned by shooting up to 4 metal bolts into their heads, and are
conscious while they are shackled by one hind leg and hoisted into the air
prior to having their throats slit.

A horse is forced into a metal lined, rectangular cubicle below floor level.
An arm within an elbow length glove reaches forward. The gun in the hand of
the killer shoots a metal bolt into the brain of that victim. The horse
falls, yet sometimes struggles to get back on its feet, maybe having up to
four bolts ejected into its brain.

Many of these horses are shipped under deplorable conditions. A lot of them
are hauled in double decker cattle trucks, whose walls are not tall enough
for most horses to carry their heads and necks effectively in order to
balance themselves correctly. Animals often fall down and remain on their
sides for days. Others get colic and die a miserable death. Horses do not
have access to food or water; neither are they protected from unacceptable
hot or cold weather conditions.

Senate Bill 1915 and House of Representatives Bill 503 are called, "The
American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act", the "AHSPA". This proposed
legislation calls for the, "prohibition on shipping, transporting, moving,
receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other
equines for slaughter for human consumption".

Watch the, "Horse Slaughter Horror Video Documentation", at the
www.sharkonline.org/horseslaughter.mv site. To thoroughly understand the
seriousness of this matter, it is "must see" evidence! [ Beware --- videos
are very graphic in nature ]

Chemical overdose injection euthanasia is the only humane way of putting a
horse to sleep, and it is very inexpensive. Its effects are instantaneous
and pain free. The vast majority of people in our community are against the
mass production of foals, keeping only a select few, and sending the rest to
killer auctions. We do not want our breed to become known as a "disposable
breed".

Please take just a moment of your time to call, e-mail, or write your
Congressman/woman regarding House of Representatives Bill 503 and your two
United States Senators, regarding Senate Bill 1915. Ask them to co-sponsor
and vote for, "The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act", and to enact a
ban on all horse slaughter for any reason.
