[RC] How best to resume conditioning after a lapse - Nikki McCormack

My husband and I have recently started conditioning our horses for this year (yes, it is a bit late, but there were lots of issues holding us back that I won't go into). We are planning to do our first sanctioned ride in September and are currently riding 2 to 3 times a week in preparation. However, we will be away for a full week the second week of August and will not have a chance to work the horses that week or the weekends before and after.

Given that the horses will have over a week off, is it ok to go right back into the usual routine, or should we resume gradually? If gradually, how gradually would people recommend?

Thanks all,
Nikki
