I was surprised to see that "no" was 2:1 over "yes." After all, the whole rationale for weight divisions is that the amount of weight a horse carries matters. How then does it make any sense to count only part of the weight the horse carries in determing what division he is in?

I think it would be interesting also to see how many people feel that we have
too many weight divisions, or that we shouldn't have them at all.

It's early - it's only been up a few hours. . Formulate a question, sent it to me or Teri and we'll put it up.

As far as part of the weight, there are arguments both ways. If you allow tack, then you need to be very specific. At a ride I ran some years back, a woman showed up for BC with a saddle pad that was dripping wet. No it wasn't from sweat, she had soaked it to get a few pounds. She got all hacked off when I sent her away to bring back a different pad. Her water bottles - all four of them were full. This wasn't a ride across the desert with 50 miles between stops, there was not need for more than one or two water bottles.

After all, it's not the absolute weight that is used in the BC computation, it's the weight difference. If everyone weighted without tack, that difference would be basically maintained.

Do you want non-members of SERA to "weigh" in on this?
