This is the type of thing that gives chemicals a bad name. Lots of stuff has been removed from the market, not bacause it was not safe but because those applying it did not do it right. Fumagating grain requires lots of care to make sure that no residue exists in the product. Many pesticides are related to nerve gasses. It turns out that insects are more sensitive to them than animals. But if the residue is not removed... Some of the older pesticides (DDT, Chloridane) were much less toxic to mamals, but they stayed around forever and were very toxic to birds. So let us all resolve to read and follow label directions, and get good advice if confused.
