[RC] Cool Medics vests - too cool! <g> - Lucy Chaplin Trumbull

Last year at Tevis, Cool Medics had a booth where they
were selling their quilted, gel-filled vests - you soak
them in water for a couple of minutes and they supposedly
keep you cool for hours.

At the time, I was a little leery of the price so passed,
but this summer at Horse Expo in Sacramento I took advantage
of some birthday money and treated myself to a vest, a neck
scarf and a helmet liner.

Cool Medics had to make me the vest custom as I'm a different
shape to their standard shapes/sizes, so while I've been
waiting for the last few weeks, I've just been using the
helmet liner and the neck wrap - and been quite pleased
with the result.

My new vest finally arrived last week and I used it at the
weekend for the first time on the trail. It was 96-99°F and I
started riding at noon. We rode for nearly 7 hours and I never
felt hot once!

Ohmigoodness these vests are good!!!!

Today it's 103°F out there and I have to ride again. Normally
I would crawl in front of the a/c and pretend I don't even own
horses, but I'm going to ride, wrapped in my vest.

So if you suffer from heat problems (I don't deal well with
the heat), I'd definitely recommend these things as a must
if you want to ride in the summer at all.

(Note, even though I dislike collars touching my neck -
loathe turtle-neck type sweaters - I opted to get the
vest with the high collar - trying it on, it just felt
*good*)
