Since they are shorter in height and in length, 
the lever systems in their joints and in their spine are shorter, 
which 
allows for more power with less stress on those joints. 

I have a *former* friend (she gave up horses) who used this argument 
when it was time to put up hay for her horse. She could teach 3 
aerobics classes a day and run a marathon, but used the lever 
argument as to why she couldn't do hay. I felt it had more to do with 
air conditioning.
